Virtual CISO

Most mid-sized organizations hit a point where security has outgrown "something IT handles on the side" but doesn't yet justify a full-time, six-figure executive hire. That gap is exactly what a virtual CISO role is for: ongoing security leadership, strategy, risk prioritization, board and client communication, program oversight, without the overhead of a full-time seat.

What a vCISO engagement is not is a part-time technician who shows up to patch servers a few hours a month. The value is judgment and accountability at the leadership level: someone who can sit across the table from your board or a key client and speak credibly about risk, who can decide what actually needs to happen first out of a hundred competing priorities, and who's accountable for the program actually improving over time, not just producing reports.

What this actually looks like

I work as an embedded part of your leadership conversation, not an outside consultant parachuting in for a one-time deliverable. That means understanding your business well enough to prioritize security investment against what you can actually afford and what the business actually needs protected, not a generic maturity checklist. It means owning the security roadmap, translating technical risk into decisions your leadership and board can actually act on, and being the person who answers for the program's direction.

Depending on where you are, that might mean building a security program essentially from scratch, bringing order to a set of ad hoc tools and policies that accumulated without a strategy behind them, or it might mean providing experienced oversight to an internal team that has the technical skill but lacks someone at the strategic level directing where that skill gets applied. Either way, this is an ongoing relationship, not a one-time engagement, because security leadership that shows up once and disappears doesn't actually change how an organization operates day to day.

Who this is for

If you need to answer to a board, a regulator, or a major client about your security posture and don't currently have anyone who can speak to that credibly, if your security efforts feel scattered without anyone steering the overall direction, or if you're not ready for a full-time CISO hire but have clearly outgrown treating security as an IT side project, this is worth a conversation.
