Penetration Testing

A penetration test is a controlled attempt to break into your systems the way an actual attacker would, so you find the way in before they do. It's not a vulnerability scan with a nicer cover page — a scanner lists what might be wrong; a pen test tells you whether it's actually exploitable, and what someone could do once they're in.

I scope these around what matters to you: an external network test, an internal test assuming a foothold already exists, a web or mobile application, or a specific system you're worried about. The scope should match a real question you need answered, not a generic checkbox.

How I work

I start with reconnaissance — the same open-source information gathering a real attacker would do — then move into identifying and attempting to exploit weaknesses, and finally into showing what's reachable from there. The goal isn't to find every theoretical issue; it's to find the paths that actually lead somewhere, chain them together the way an attacker would, and show you the real blast radius.

Every test ends with a conversation, not just a document. The report prioritizes findings by actual risk and exploitability, and I walk through it with your team so the people who have to fix things understand exactly what happened and why it matters — not just a severity score with no context.

How often, and what kind

Annual testing is the baseline most compliance frameworks ask for, but if you're shipping changes frequently or just went through a major infrastructure change, that cadence isn't enough on its own. I'll tell you honestly whether a full test or a narrower, more frequent check makes more sense for where you are.
