Advanced Malware Protection
Signature-based antivirus still has a place, but it's built to catch malware that's already been seen before, cataloged, and added to a database. It does very little against a novel payload, a fileless attack living in memory, or malware that's been deliberately modified just enough to avoid matching a known signature. If your malware defense stops at traditional antivirus, you're protected against yesterday's threats and largely exposed to today's.
Advanced malware protection means shifting the detection model from "does this match something known" to "is this behaving like something malicious," watching for things like a process trying to encrypt large numbers of files quickly, a script spawning unexpected child processes, or outbound traffic to an unfamiliar destination right after a suspicious download. That behavioral layer is what catches ransomware before it finishes encrypting a file share, not after.
How I build this out
I start with what you have running today and figure out where the actual gaps are, often it's endpoints that have basic antivirus but no behavioral detection, or email and web filtering that hasn't been tuned against current phishing and malware delivery tactics. From there I look at EDR or XDR tooling fit for your scale, and just as importantly, the response process behind it: an alert is worthless if there's no clear, fast path to isolate the affected machine and investigate before it spreads.
I also pay attention to the delivery vectors, not just the payload. A huge amount of malware still arrives through a phishing email or a compromised website, so the defense isn't complete without email filtering, browser isolation where it makes sense, and awareness training that targets the specific delivery methods your organization is actually seeing.
Who needs this
If your endpoint protection hasn't been evaluated in a few years, if you've had a close call with ransomware or suspect malware that traditional antivirus didn't catch, or if you're not confident you'd detect a novel threat before it caused real damage, it's worth a closer look.
